Kenyatta University Launches its Digital School

Nairobi, July 1st, 2014

Kenyatta University launched its Digital School, to provide quality education to meet the growing need for higher education. It is the first university in Central and Eastern Africa to host a Digital School. The programme, as per Prof. Olive Mugenda, Vice Chancellor, will have a combination of digital instruction and live tutorials regional centers in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Garissa, Kakamega, Nakuru, Nyeri, Marsabit and Embu.

The Digital School provides a wide range of courses that include diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. The fees for these programmes are less than that of a regular on-campus course. The students registered for the courses will get free tablets with all the course materials loaded in it. KU’s Digital School is powered by mElimu.

mElimu partnered with Kenyatta University to help setting up of their Digital School with the aim to meet the growing demand for higher education in Kenya. Tushar Vohra, COO, mElimu, at the launch stated “With technological advancement at such a fast pace, it is important that we make the right use of it for a cause like education”. He also said, “Creating a platform like mElimu is not only a solution to the accessibility and affordability of higher education for the students, but also to the teachers and universities”.

mElimu looks forward to partnering with more universities in Kenya and other Eastern African countries to help make quality education available to more students.
